At 7:00 p.m. today, LulzSec leaked a 446MB torrent of material obtained from Arizona law enforcement agencies, including personal information ranging from names, phone numbers, addresses, passwords, private intelligence, training manuals, personal emails, and so on. In the accompanying bulletin, LulzSec explained that “we are targeting AZDPS specifically because we are against SB1070 and the racial profiling anti-immigrant police state that is Arizona” (LulzSec). Many of the dox are classified as sensitive and private and pertain to border patrol, counter-terrorism, and use of informants.
This marks the first installment of LulzSec’s new Chinga la Migra (“fuck the police”) series, presumably a derivative of or accompaniment to Fuck FBI Friday. Passed on 23 April 2010 and effected 29 July 2010, Arizona Senate Bill 1070—The Support Our Law Enforcement & Safe Neighborhoods Act—has been called the broadest and most stringent anti-illegal immigration measure in recent U.S. history. It has been criticized for encouraging racial profiling and promotes “attrition through enforcement” of laws governing the documents and behavior of illegal aliens in AZ.
U.S. federal law mandates that aliens 14 or older register with the government after living in the U.S. for more than 30 days; after this, the registered aliens must carry their registration documents with them at all times. Among other provisions, SB 1070 makes it a state misdemeanor crime for an alien to be in AZ without these documents, and as such police are obligated to detain and/or arrest anyone suspected of illegal alien status. How this is not tantamount to racial profiling, I don’t know. Then on 30 April, House Bill 2162 was passed and modified the Act by stating that “prosecutors would not investigate complaints based on race, color or national origin.” At any rate, LulzSec just doxed the Arizona Department of Public Safety, presumably because of their hypocrisy and oppression. LulzSec states:
Every week we plan on releasing more classified documents and embarassing personal details of military and law enforcement in an effort not just to reveal their racist and corrupt nature but to purposefully sabotage their efforts to terrorize communities fighting an unjust “war on drugs.”
Hackers of the world are uniting and taking direct action against our common oppressors – the government, corporations, police, and militaries of the world. See you again real soon! ;D (LulzSec)
The leaked documents themselves are available on LulzSec’s Releases page. Hats off to LulzSec for mixing ethics and lulz.
